  • Comments Thread For: Bronze Medalist Esparza on Posing in ESPN ‘Body Issue’

Marlen Esparza, who made history as the first American woman to win an Olympic boxing medal when she captured bronze at London 2012, recently posed nude in ESPN the Magazine’s latest “Body Issue,” which hit stores Friday.

Esparza sat down with BoxingScene.com/CSNBayArea.com and broke down the photo shoot, what she hoped to accomplish with her participation, and how her family reacted to her decision to disrobe for the cameras. [Click Here To Read More]

She's classless an I have no respect for her. I guess working with Victor Conte has paid off using PED's..I wouldn't be suprised. I'm sorry I have to say this and many might not like it but it's very real and the very truth. Where does Marlen Esparza come off like she's the queen of boxing? I don't get it. She calls out Professional fighters like she's Laila Ali or somebody. She claims she wants to stay amateur until the 2016 Olympics in Rio. All of her rewards have come to her because of boxing. She is one of the very reasons why women boxing is at an all time low and no big time promoter will sign a female, or why HBO or Showtime will never have a female shown on there shows. She ONLY cares about self. She's in a great position to help female boxing but she chooses not too. Boxing has rewarded her with sponsors and she says she don't want to turn professional and if she turns professional maybe for one or two fights. But she can pose nude for ESPN the Magazine. You have the right, the privilege and the prerogative to do with your life whatever you so desire. However, the total disrespect of USA boxing and the young females who look up to you as a Olympian is appalling. You didn't think about taking your clothes off before you became an Olympian. Why is she afraid of turning professional? What is she scared of? Is it the headgear comes off and you wear smaller gloves? I watched her fight in the Olympics and I'm sorry to tell you that I wasn't impressed at all. Neither did Teddy Atlas. Maybe the wrong females went to London to represent the USA. Claressa Shields won a gold medal and she was the MOST impressive fighter in the Olympics including the men. What has she gotten out of it. She should be the talk of the town and she should have been rewarded with commercials an sponsors, but NO! Claressa has been shelved since the Olympics. Not some Bronze medalist who really can't fight.

This is a tweet from Marlen Esparza: “I don’t really plan on going pro right now,” “I haven’t seen a pro girl that I can respect yet.”

Kaliesha West (Bantamweight Champion) took offense to that and this was Kaliesha West response: This chick will get her ass whooped by me or Ava Knight. Amateur boxers don’t realize how different the game is when the headgear is off, rounds are increased and gloves go down to four ounces. This girl is a clown act, a disgrace to women’s boxing and has never truly been tested. She was handed a bronze medal. You would’ve thought she’d be humble. I have absolutely lost respect for her.”

Kaliesha West also stated: She didn’t think any women’s boxer who has been put in the limelight of popular culture thus far, especially Marlen Esparza, was the right person for the job. She’s disappointed Esparza hasn’t used the platform provided to her by her multiple endorsements to speak out on the current state of women’s boxing. “The state of women’s boxing is horrible,” “It’s crap right now.

most pros girls in boxing dont like Marlen Esparza, for the sole fact that Marlen has all this spotlight on her, sponsor and is in a position to help women boxing but she dont care she only cares what can she get out of it. Hell she only won a bronze and clarissa sheilds won a gold and Shields dont even get half the limelight Marlen gets.
