Comments Thread For: Nathan Cleverly Planning To Overwhelm, Outclass Kovalev

Nathan Cleverly is looking forward to slaying the mighty Russian KO king Sergey Kovalev at Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena on Saturday 17th August.

The Welsh ace defends his WBO World Light-Heavyweight title for the sixth time against the steel-fisted Kovalev live and exclusive in the UK on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/****** Ch. 546) and in the US on HBO.

Cleverly met with the media at Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena today to publicise his titanic clash along with the some of the other fighters on the card and says it will be a night to remember.

"August 17th can't come quick enough for me. Kovalev has built this reputation of fear for his devastating knockouts, which to anybody looks pretty impressive. When I saw the KO's it excited me and I said I've got to have this guy," Said Cleverly

I'll be incredibly impressed if Ceverly throws 5 or 6 to each of Kovalevs. Kovalev also punches in bunches and (my pet compubox warrior says) lands at least as many as Clev in a round.

I'm not about to dismiss Clevs quick, lightweight jabs, which can both tire and disorientate his foes, whilst acting as a rangefinder, but Kovalevs mixed-up heavy combos leave his foes stunned more than disorientated.

I've gotta admit, Kovalev seems entirely too focussed on attack, and I can't help thinking he's gotta be vulnerable, but uptil now it seems to have worked just fine for him. It's apparent he's got the skills and mobility to match Clev, but I'm unsure how he will carry his pace into the later rounds (should it go that far) - since I can see Clev getting on his bike til the mid-rounds and hoping Kovalev will eventually gas.

Got to hand it to Cleverly. He loves a scrap. His fitness, speed and chin are all solid. Doesn't have the power but he's great to watch. It's fights like these that make me more than happy to subscribe to boxnation.

Looking forward to seeing how Cleverly handles the pressure of a real hard-hitting boxer/puncher.

Kovalev will put hands on him......in the ring.

              He will touch him.

                I despise ballerina fighters:

                Jr
that dude that went against Rio's etc....

I haven't seen Cleverly and saw a clip of Kovalev

I am going wid da KILLA KOVALEV

To beat a ballerina you must shut down their exits

I am sure KOVALEV knows this

Lovin' the ignorance in this 'ere thread, no doubt by Americans too.

Cleverly is the last person to take a back-step, he'll walk Kovalev down and leave his chin out for him. Fuck sake, the guy spars with heavyweights and goes to war - who's scared of a little white Russian?

I fought on the same card as Kovalevs last bout and saw him fight live a couple times before. This cleverly guy is not too clever taking this fight. I don't envy him getting in there with Kovalev. The guy is genuinely ferocious and relentless. You can't appreciate on TV how the whole arena echoes when he thuds his opponents in the head. He'll take care of cleverly as fast as the last couple sacrificial lambs. The guy is scary.
