Comments Thread For: Chavez Jr. Will Not Have Roach For Vera Clash on 9/7

Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. indicates that he will not have Freddie Roach in his corner on September 7th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Chavez will face Brian Vera at a catch-weight of 165-pounds. Chavez last worked with Roach last September, when he suffered the first loss of his career to Sergio Martinez in Las Vegas. The training camp for Martinez was full of holes and there was a lot of tension with Roach and the Mexican star. Roach claimed Chavez was not following his instructions and missing training sessions.

good for JR but he needs a better trainer, specially if he plans to fight Ward & GGG he needs to step up.

So he's going to train with the same guy who basically trained him for the Martinez fight? Vera will upset Chavez.

I know its his son and all but Chavez Sr. really needs to take a step back from his kids career. He makes all these excuses for his son and lets him get away with not taking care of his basic responsibilities as a professional. '
Chavez Jr. needs to take charge of his career and put it in the hands of a disciplined trainer who will hold him accountable if he wants to be anything more than the son of a legend....

Chavez is going to get wrecked by Golovkin. Absolutely destroyed. GGG has better discipline, better pedigree, and a better punch. I bet Roach is relieved.

No loss at all for Freddy. He does not need all the BS and lazy habits that come with training Chavez Jr. Good riddance.
