  • Comments Thread For: Berman Feels Oosthuizen Blew Big Fight Opportunity

Tommy Oosthuizen's draw against Brandon Gonzales may have put plans for more international fights for him in doubt.

The South Africa, who holds the IBO super-middleweight title, drew with Gonzales in the United States last Saturday night.

Golden Gloves promoter Rodney Berman on Monday described Oosthuizen's performance as "a massive setback".

I like Rodney Berman I know he does the best for his fighters under the circumstances but he has part to blame when fighters do have off nights, he does'nt keep them active enough. Tommy should be having his 3rd fight this year not his 1st as we are in July already. Van Heerden since beating Hatton has done nothing, I know South Africa is logistically out of the way but then send Tommy to the States for a year, this is not helping Tommy by fighting end of june and then again at the end of the year, So Rodney Berman needs to shelter some of the Blame.

I hate when promoters are not positive about their fighters and even state discouraging comments about them. Tommy is still young, he can get back on track and try again.

I was not able to follow the Oosthuizen - Gonzales fight. I've tried but it was such a bore. I was watching the decision though and I saw Gonzalez smiling in disbelief...

Brandon Gonzalez' stock should go up big time after this.

It should. He dominated 6 rounds of the fight and had his favored opponent totally confused. One thing that Brandon and his management need to do is to keep him more active. Once the public knows about him, some good money fights should come his way.

I'd like to see him challenge Oosthuizen for his belt(s).

I think a rematch is in order here. Give Oothuizen a chance to redeem himself and to prove that he had an 'off night' and that this fight was a fluke. This was a really competitive fight and I'd love to see these guys go at it again

I agree - Tommy did not lose (even though some people think he did, some thought a draw and some think he won by a round or two) his performance was not of his usual standard. Berman should be thinking about getting back into the ring soonest maybe on the undercard of Groves v Froch maybe against Degale and see where the road leads.

                  Oosthuizen will concede no rematch...
Following the draw he still is the IBO champ as he defeated Fulgencio Zuniga (?!?) back in November...

Not impressed with tommy. Gonzalez is a ward clone, but he's pretty athletic. He's will do well me thinks. Won't be a great fighter or anything but he's definitely good enough to be a gatekeeper
