Comments Thread For: Loeffler: Andre Ward-Gennady Golovkin Will Take Time

According to Tom Loeffler, managing director of K2 Promotions, his company is not looking to rush IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24KOs) into a potential fight with WBA super middleweight king Andre Ward (26-0, 14KOs). After beating every possible name at 168, Ward is lacking opponents for the future. On the other hand, Golovkin is being avoided by many of the top middleweights. Loeffler says Golovkin is going to stick it out at 160-pounds for the moment, but Ward could be a possible fight down the road in 2014.

Other than Chavez Jr there is no reason to stay at 160. HBOs roster of 154lbers is weak too. Hes not landing Canelo or Floyd nor should he. That venue last night was maybe 5000 if full. So I dont expect GBP to throw GGG a bone. The best possible fights are Froch and Ward. GGG is in his 30s so I dont see what the wait is for. GGGs time is now. Not a year from now. Not 2 years from now. He should be on the Rigo fast track.

Where are the people that was saying that Golovkin wants to fight Ward but Ward is afraid?Golovkin wants no part of Ward or Kid Chocolate.Golovkin talks a good one but when its time to put up he makes excuses.I read he wants to fight Chavez junior next, that shows that he`s gonna cherrypick his way through his career and his groupies are gonna make excuses for him.

It's weird how these Russian/eastern block fighters are creating more interest in America than American fighters. I say GGG should maximise his options across divisions by proving himself across weight divisions, a bit like Paul Williams. Take on a top guy at 154 while he waits for Martinez or Geale. There's plenty out there. Trout, Cotto etc. Or try it on with a 168 dude... Abraham, Stieglitz et al. Or one of the guys on his undercard. Gonzales or Tommy O.

It's pretty apparent the biggest, most credible title fight that can happen at 160 is Martinez-Golovkin. For various legit reasons it ain't happening til maybe this time next year or slightly later. Quillen won't happen because of the TV/promoter feud. Geale can happen and likely will hence his August appearance on HBO. Pirog seems injury prone, JCC may never return to 160 and and Bob won't do that unless GGG signs with Top Rank.

Going down to 154, options aplenty, but how will he survive the weight drain? Well enough I suspect if he gets his work done early. Golovkin vs Cotto would be epic.

At 168 options aplenty too. I know he's retired, but maybe Top Rank could convince Pavlik to come back. Two huge punchers, easy fight to sell.

But Sergio vs Golovkin is the one we want.

Concentrate on dominating 160. Your stock will rise and fights with Canelo or Ward will become much bigger down the road.

But there plenty of options at 160. The I'll fight anyone at 154 to 168 was a smart when nobody would fight you.

Now with HBO's backing you can get the's guys in the ring. So its important to fight at your own weight and continue to grow your brand.

Golovkin isn't scared of ward IMO GGG's team is being smart. Alot still to be done at 160. Why rush to super middleweight to fight ward???

Peter Quillin is no match for GGG...you're talking about a guy with 15 amateur fights against an Olympic champion with 350 amateur fights. Don't even compare the 2.

Yes: Golovkin is scared of everybody.
All the other are calling him out but he is scared, isn't he?
