MASHANTUCKET, Conn. - Powerful World Boxing Association & International Boxing Organization World middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (27-0, 24 KOs) stopped challenger Matthew "Mack The Knife" Macklin (29-5, 20 KOs) with a lethal body shot in the third round, headlining tonight's HBO Triple-Header, presented by K2 Promotions and DiBella Entertainment, in the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino.

Golovkin stalked the game Irishman and finished the fight at 1:22 of the third round with a vicious left hook to Macklin's ribs, sending a strong signal to the entire 160-pound division that the Kazakh is a true force.

Macklin stunned him for a second with a good shot when he fought fire with fire, perhaps enough to suggest that a heavy-punching 168lb fighter has a chance to beat Golovkin.

Otherwise he's right, it did look relatively easy.

Mack fought scared most rounds. After he felt GGG's power, he went into survival mode.

I saw that too but he kept pressing. I think he would be like Froch when hurt and have an excellent poker face.

This right here. Most guys who fight Golovkin aren't trying to do damage. They're trying to make it out the ring on their feet.

I dunno if GGG should move up to 168 yet.

however, I do believe Ward's hit & hold style would throw off GGG's rhythm and smother GGG's power. right now I think 168 lbsers are too big for him. he's probably only the same size as the ginger

I agree. I think he should clean out the 160 division. There's a lot of guys he can fight there. He was only 170 tonight he would be undersized at 168 IMO.

Yes, I saw a right hand that caught Golovkin's attention and he even nodded before Macklin caught him again. Not that clean but still pretty hard and Golovkin stepped back. Macklin was in survival mode though.

Macklin is a though SOB but he is there to be hit.
