Scottish boxer Alex Arthur has announced his retirement from the sport at the age of 35.

The former WBO world super-featherweight and Commonwealth champion confirmed the news to his Twitter followers.

The Edinburgh fighter boasted a record of 31 wins and just three defeats in his career.

Arthur tweeted: "Well... Woke up 35 today. Time goes so fast, I have never fought for over a year now so just want to say I officially retire from boxing today!"

Arthur also had a sucessful career as an amateur, securing gold in the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur before winning belts at British, Commonwealth, European and World super-featherweight levels after turning to the professional game in 2000. [Click Here To Read More]

I best remember him for saying ""looking deep into his eyes at the press conference, I'm not sure even he believes he can win" before his fight with Michael Gomez who then proceeded to beat the **** out of Arthur.
