  • Comments Thread For: Hopkins On Kovalev: I Respect, Accept The IBF's Decision

For the moment, Bernard Hopkins still chooses to run towards the sound of gun fire.

Upon orders from the IBF, Hopkins’ first defense of his latest light heavyweight title reign must come against unbeaten knockout artist Sergey Kovalev. The thought of such a fight generated considerable buzz in boxing circles following Kovalev’s explosive 3rd round knockout of Cornelius White last weekend, a bout that aired live on NBC Sports Network.

Given the skeptical nature that comes with the average boxing fan, most of the buzz centered around whether or not Hopkins would still keep his belt and go through with the fight.

His first public statement on the subject suggests the 48-year old is at least warm to the idea. [Click Here To Read More]

So Kovalev gets the choice between Hopkins or Cleverly? I'd pick Hopkins. Go for the legend.

It aint Ward, but I look forward to seeing this fight. I dont know too much about Sergiy except he has some pop, and based off a vid I seen, he's decent fighter!

Kovalev is stuck he has two viable options for a title shot B hop or Cleverly. I hope he picks B hop unless Clevery offers him more dough

Thats great luck, getting to pick between two title offers. Doesn't happen that often in Boxing. Big decision because pros and cons to both choices. Money, location, fame, odds of winning, etc.

Yes, it's by far the bigger fight.

I'd be surprised if Hopkins actually takes this fight. What's the gain for him? Will the IBF strip him even if he tries to do a unification with Stevenson?

If worse comes to worse, you'd think he'd just drop the title and challenge Stevenson in a bigger fight for more money and the WBC/lineal titles.

Would be a shame if Cleverly gets left out in the cold yet again.

I hope Kovalev takes the Cleverly fight. Hopkins is a good fighter but he is almost 50 years old. Cleverly is young and in his prime, he also holds a belt and this fight would sell out in the UK.

If Kovalev decides to fight Hopkins, it will be a boooring fight. At least with Cleverly we are guaranteed a scrap.

Someone needs to step up and face Cleverly. I've been critical of him in the past, but let's face it, he's being avoided left right and centre. That must be for a reason.

Sergey Kovalev via UD Bhop goes down a few times.

True respect for Bhop of course. Would be happy if Hopkins won.
