  • Comments Thread For: Cleverly Back on 8/17, Warren is Trying To Get Kovalev

Welsh hero Nathan Cleverly returns to action on Saturday 17th August when he headlines an action packed show at the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena.

The unbeaten star will make the sixth defence of his title and he will have the added incentive of making a big impression in America as TV giants HBO will broadcast his fight.

The show will be televised live and exclusive in the UK on the Channel Of Champions BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/****** Ch. 546).

Cleverly, 25, hopes that his challenger will be the sledge-hammer hitting Russian sensation Sergey Kovalev who is undefeated in 21 fights, 1 draw, and 19 knockouts - 18 of those coming inside three rounds. He latest victim was Cornelius White last Saturday night who he dropped three times on-route to a third round stoppage.

Where are all the people who said Warren would never put Cleverly in with Kovalev?

Oh wait.....they are still somehow blaming Warren

One press release does not a fight make.

This. Talk is cheap. However, I will say if this fight gets made I give MAJOR props to cleverly and Warren and will not say anything about Warren protecting his fighters. This is the absolute best and most dangerous opponent for cleverly to make a voluntary defense against possible, IMO

Props to FW if he does make Cleverly-Kovalev, but I still think it's not going to happen.

The fight has been in negotiations for a while now. They were ready to announce it on Monday but then Murat pulled out of the Hopkins fight and the IBF made Kovalev the mandatory.

Frank Warren has already made it. The only reason this fight doesn't happen is if Kovalev pulls out to fight Hopkins.

I think a fight between Cleverly and Spiderman is equally as likely as this.

Warren is like 0-47 when announcing big fights, but i will hold out hope that it gets made...

Unlike alot of posters on here that dont like cleverly, i think he is a solid good fighter... I havent seen much of him, but from the 2 fights i have seen, his workrate would cause anybody problems...

I don't think Warren would lie about having a deal with HBO. He could be, but it seems as if he genuinely wants this fight for Cleverly. And why not?

Kovalev is already being heralded as something special despite not beating anybody of note, and Cleverly has been written off by the fans for a long time. This is almost a win/win fight for him.
