Comments Thread For: CompuBox Stats: Garcia's Jab Was Key With Juanma

Garcia landed an avg. of 11 of 33 jabs per round- double the wgt. class avg. Even more impressive considering the jab is not usually an effective weapon for an orthodox fighter vs. a southpaw.

Mikey's jab was sharp, but this shows up really more how poor JuanMa's defense was - notably lack of head movement - as he waited in range whilst Mikey kept popping him with the jab.

Get your hands up or get your head moving. If you don't do either, you get hit. Only the superman's of this world (Roy Jones in his prime) can dodge bullets. Even Mayweather gets hit with the jab when he gets sloppy (see Cotto fight where he eats 3 in a row).

JuanMa never really excelled in defense so I wasn't surprised that Mikey was out-boxing him. What really surprised me was how bad JuanMa's footwork and balance were. He was constantly off-balance - even when trying to throw a jab. I've never seen him being this sloppy before.

But the fight went just as I predicted. I said before the fight that JuanMa is a fighter who needs to be active. The hard and brutal wars in the past combined with long lay-offs don't help his cause. JuanMa is a broken fighter.
