  • Comments Thread For: Juanma: There Are No Excuses, Mikey Garcia Was Better

Former two division world champion Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez (33-3, 30 KOs) has no excuses about his fourth round stoppage loss to Mikey Garcia (32-0, 27 KOs) on Saturday night at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The fight was stopped in the fourth after Lopez was down for the second time in the fight. The Puerto Rican fighter plans to return event stronger, and won't even use Garcia's weight advantage as an excuse for the loss. Garcia weighed two pounds over the featherweight limit on Friday. Rather than squeeze down to 126, he paid Juanma a six figure sum.

Boxing can be cruel sometimes. I never really liked Juanma, but I felt really bad for him last night. Such a quick rise and fall. Thought he was going to do a lot more last night, but he really looks done at this point. He's going to get really hurt if he continues on.

Much better reaction to taking a loss, very classy. I hope Juanma has one more good run left in him, but at this point not looking good.

for you guys who complain about defensive fighters:

exhibit A is juanma lopez. that's what it looks like when you take bombs on the chin, fight after fight. that guy is 30 years old and completely done.

Garcia's jabs looked damaging, the way Juanma's head kept snapping back. I hope Juanma retires.

Juanma is as game as they come but does he need the shellacking he is getting?

To the dude to repudiates the guys who don't like defensive fighters :

Defensive fighters are cool as long as they FIGHT like MIKEY or JMM and NOT like the ballerina kid

Never really was a fan pf Juanma cause of the way he was when he was coming up. He had everything handed to him and never really took fights seriously thats what happened to him. He believed way too much in his power that was his downfall. Salido was supposed to be a walk in the park to set up gamboa and lopez but it all backfired.

That said he took the loss well now and accepted he got dominated with class. I don't wish him bad he was exciting cause of his power maybe he could have a run but with the right opponents and the right trainer to improved his defense a lil bit maybe he can be champ once more and retire.

That fight if they would of fought at that time when they were undefeated cluld of been 50/50 because gamboa doesn't have good defense and weak chin. We sen gamboa dropped as well by guys with less power lopez would of put him to sleep but we never knew. Gambo = no chin, not good defense, gets tired quick fights in spurts doesn't come to fight with a gameplan. Hell we have another hothead in the making.

Juanma was a prospect he had a lot of power ok boxing skills but needed to improve. He wasn't hyped maybe overhyped. Let me see still to the point not even mares or broner knock out pdl quicker or better so he sure wasn't hyped
