Comments Thread For: BoxingScene Staff Predictions - Gamboa vs. Perez

Two years ago, Yuriorkis Gamboa was recognized as the best featherweight in the world, so good that Top Rank did its best to avoid any chance at a showdown with prized possession Juan Manuel Lopez. The superfight that could have been instead saw its bottom fall out altogether when Lopez suffered a knockout loss to Orlando Salido.

Gamboa was sent in another direction – up the scale for a scheduled showdown with then-unbeaten lightweight Brandon Rios. The fight never happened, as Gamboa bolted from the promotion and eventually from Top Rank.

I will go with Perez by upset. Gamboa has not looked good recently.

Depends how Yuri holds the weight.

He is way above where he belongs, but talent alone can carry him.

Dude im not too knowledgable of the really small weight classes but if you think he's fighting at a class that's too big for him who should he be fighting? Again i don't know those weight classes much but what about Yuri and Mikey? Your thoughts?

He shoulda stayed at 126, where he was a beast. However, the money fights in that division were being kept from him. Top Rank refused to put Juanma in with him and killed that money fight, Mikey's team turned the fight down because they didn't think he was ready for Gamboa yet.

At that stage Yuri moved up as the money fights were there, however, they have also fallen apart for whatever reason.

Garcia-Gamboa would be awesome. I'd still favour Gamboa who was scary good at 126, but it would be a top fight.

I look at Gamboa and the first thing that goes through my mine is, that he is still doping.
