Comments Thread For: Erik Morales: Mayweather-Canelo is 50-50, May Disappoint

Former four division world champion Erik "Terrible" Morales believes Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs) vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) is a 50-50 fight. They are going to clash for the WBC/WBA junior middleweight titles on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Morales also warns that highly anticipated fights are somtimes very disappointing.

If he really thinks that, he can find nice odds for the match I'm curious how much he will bet on Canelo. lol

Morales is right about one thing..on paper this fight looks great....but not always the way it works.
Floyd will take this kid into open waters, make him bleed, then feed him to the sharks!!!!!
An when canelo dosent look as good as expected ppl will come up with every excuse why he didnt as usual.

        He's right though.

As much as we wanted to see Mayweather vs Pacquiao, how many of us really thought we'd see a Leonard vs Duran / Chavez vs Taylor type fight? If you think about it, what was the last hugely publicized fight that lived up to the expectation?

I'd say more like a 65-35 type fight. It's Floyd's fight to lose, but Floyd hasn't looked the best at 154.

if thats the case then then the fight would be amazing!! i think eric was simply going by the lines that floyd will probably fight the most defensive fight we will ever see him in and that could be a disappointment.

He has a point, it's on Canelo to make the fight good, for Floyd it's just another day at work, doing what he does best, and us fans loving every minute of it.

Im with Morales on this one, this fight will be heavily hyped but unless Canelo becomes a super agressive Pressure fighter like Castillo I don't see much action here. Canelo usually stands in the middle to conserve his energy, he drains himself just to make 154 and has stamina issues, thats why he doesn't really push often in the fight so he doesn't gas out.

I see Floyd just boxing circles and pot shotting Canelo forcing him to chase him. Only way Canelo has a shot is if he lands some hard leather if Mayweather gets carless shooting for a body jab or Canelo suddenly gets better stamina and applies heavy pressure.

He has a short reach so he won't be able to out box Floyd.
