Comments Thread For: Ryota Murata, Gold Medal Winner, Inks With Top Rank

BEVERLY HILLS, CALIF. -- Next Monday in Los Angeles, Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum and Todd duBoef, CEO and president of Top Rank, respectively, will host a news conference luncheon to announce the signing and professional debut of 2012 Japanese Olympic Gold Medalist RYOTA MURATA.

Murata captured the Olympic gold medal in the middleweight division at the 2012 Olympics held in London. It was the first gold medal won by a Japanese boxer since Takao Sakurai in 1964, and also is the first-ever boxing medal in a weight class other than bantamweight or flyweight. Murata also became the 100th gold medalist in Japanese Olympic history. The six-foot orthodox fighter will campaign as a middleweight as a professional.

Awesome. However you feel about TR, they know how to develop a prospect, and Murata looked like a legit pro prospect in the Olympics, unlike Shiming.

I hope we actually get to watch this kid grow. I was disappointed when he said he would retire. I think he'll make a decent pro. He has the opportunity to make Japanese Boxing, international boxing.

What an impact! I thought Murata was going to be promoted by Teiken, but actually by TR Inc? Arum is never a person who I want to do any kind of job with, but watching him promote a possible blue chipper is OK by me. I hope he won't let us down. Murata is Da Friggin' ****!
