Comments Thread For: Carl Frampton Leaves Matchroom, Joins Frank Warren Promotions

Ireland's Carl "The Jackal" Frampton has parted company with Matchroom Sport and will now fight on Frank Warren's "Behind Enemy lines" bill at Wembley Arena on July 20th.

Matchroom confirmed the split earlier today, citing Frampton's manager and mentor Barry McGuigan's desire to co-promote the fighter as the reason for the parting of ways.

"We have enjoyed our time working with Carl Frampton as Promoter of his boxing career," said Eddie Hearn. "However, after the success of the last Frampton fight we were informed by Barry McGuigan that he wanted to be joint promoter in future Frampton fights." [Click Here To Read More]

Well, I hope that leaves the door open for a certain Mr.Quigg to enter the Matchroom roster. Hatton's suffered from the lack of TV dates and Quigg is his hottest prospect and needs to be fighting regularly.

Hearn has let Frampton go because he's reluctant to co-promote him so if Hatton ever offered such a deal, he's going to decline that too...

Naw, McGuigan is his manager too.

It's a move made to line his pockets.

Yea but in the long run is that a good move for Frampton?

As a Frampton fan, I don't know how I feel about this just yet. I've never really liked Frank Warren and the move to BoxNation might hurt Carl's audience over here. The whole of Belfast seemed to be watching the fight against Kiko and now they'll have to pay a subscription to see him. That'll take away thousands of casual fans, IMO.

I just hope Warren can match-make as well or better than Hearn did for Carl. Eddie seemed to be building him up well, it's important that Frank now carries on in the same vein and has him fighting a winnable fight for a world title by the end of 2014.

if Frampton vs Quigg doesn't happen as Hearn was due to make then Frampton has made a terrible decision long term.

                Yes and no.

Warren is still a good promoter and has good contacts. Paul Butler, one of his fighters, might be featuring on the Pac-Rios card because of said contacts. Groves fought in America and so did Cleverly, so he's not entirely useless.

However, he just has too many prospects/fighters. By bringing in Frampton, other prospects will suffer and then when it's their turn to be promoted, Frampton will suffer. He's displayed an inability to manage his roster properly, he's still signing fighters now and just piling 'em up.

The good thing is Frampton is being co-promoted by McGuigan, so he's not completely in Warren's hands. But I just feel for the rest of Warren's fighters.

He actually reads this website, so Mr.Warren, if you can see this. Please sort out your prospects first before signing more. Start matching prospect against prospect and drop the loser, you don't need that many fighters, you need winners!

Sucks that people have to subscribe to boxnation to see this... Frank should of stayed with sky sports or atleast made it a free channel with a shetload of advertisements

I suppose to have a point there. And doesn't he post articles on here too?
