According to promoter Kalle Sauerland of Sauerland Event, negotiations continue for an ordered fight between European heavyweight champion Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KOs) and Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KOs). The EBU ordered the match to take place and ordered a purse bid date of May 28th, which means the clock is ticking down. The fight would also be a final IBF eliminator, with the winner receiving the opportunity to challenge the Wladimir Klitschko-Alexander Povetkin winner.

Pulev should definitely become the mandatory if Fury backs out, that's twice now it will have happened to him. That said, I'd rather see him face Vitali. Pulev reminds me of a poor man's VK in a lot of ways. Not nearly as high volume puncher, but a composed fighter who fights with hands fairly low, relies on reflexes and breaking his opponents down. I don't really see a dominant champ in him, because while he is good at most everything, he doesn't really excel at anything except keeping his composure in a fight (which is how he beat Dimitrenko, who was outboxing him the first half of the fight, except for the Haye-like flops, but AD just broke down mentally eventually.) He's definitely a top 10 contender though, maybe could pick up a belt after the K's leave.

It doesn't surprise me that Fury's team is trying to find him a less dangerous opponent. They may be trying to negotiate a fight with Adamek, since he is a former cruiserweight and about as safe as Cunningham. However, I wouldn't be surprised if we get an announcement about a Fury/Holyfield or Fury/Audley Harrison fight scheduled for November of this year.

It's doubtful whether Fury's team will want him to fight Pulev. If it does happen, Pulev will KO Fury inside six rounds.

You're right that Pulev probably wouldn't be able to be a dominant champ, but as it looks now, nobody will after the Klitschko's retire. Pulev can definitely pick up a belt or two, though.
