Comments Thread For: Roman Gonzalez-Kazuto Ioka Pondered For The Fall

Nicaraguan Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (34-0, 28KOs) is raising "his eyebrows" for a clash against Japanese fighter Kazuto Ioka (12-0, 8KOs), the regular junior flyweight champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA). Gonzalez was appointed late last year as the "super champion" of the WBA. The WBA recently ordered the two of them to fight. But unofficially it has been discovered that Ioka's team is considering the fight with Chocolatito, possibly in the month of August in Japan. On Saturday night in Nicaragua, Colombian veteran Ronald Barrera stands in the way of Gonzalez.

Damn, I thought he was moving up to 112. I guess if this fight goes down and he wins he can move up.

Is Ioka gonna pull out again? I think so but hope not. I hope HBO picks up this fight but I doubt it.

There is a good chance both Ioka and Gonzalez move to 112 in the next year. Yaegashi is now the lineal flyweight champ and Ioka and him had a great fight last year. It was a really close fight and a rematch would be huge in Japan.
In the next year or two we could have some great match ups at 112. Estrada, Gonzalez, Ioka, Viloria, and Marquez would all be good fights matched just about anyway.
Porpramook moved up to 112 as well and he's rarely in a dull fight.
I could see Moises Fuentes and Adrian Hernandez moving up to 112 in the near future too.

Alright... 2nd time is a charm? Lets hope so. But what could've changed in Ioka in 1 fight?

Only thing I can think of is money. He will make more of it fight Chocolatito I am sure. I still have Roman winning if they do fight.

I'm kind of wondering that same thing. Ioka's last fight wasn't the kind of fight that would get him ready for Gonzalez. Maybe he just wanted a few fights at 108 to get used to the weight, but he is big at 108 and was huge for 105.

Maybe it was the money or the weight. But the way Ioka's team made it sound like was that Ioka just want ready... Who knows.
