Comments Thread For: Froch-Kessler Winner To Keep IBF Belt, Stevenson Out

While Andre Ward was forced to give up an alphabet title, not all is lost in the super middleweight division.

When the rematch between Mikkel Kessler and Carl Froch was first announced, it was followed by the news that the winner would only hold the IBF title long enough to pose for pictures. The belt was to have been vacated immediately thereafter, in conjunction with a long overdue mandatory.

That dilemma went away once the mandatory challenger – Adonis Stevenson – elected to move up to challenge for the light heavyweight crown. The winner of this weekend’s rematch between Kessler and Froch will walk out of the ring and remain a unified champion. No longer awaiting the winner will be a mandatory obligation, at least not from the IBF. [Click Here To Read More]

That's ridiculous. First of all, Bute-Pascal is being rescheduled for the end of the year. So that would put a Froch-Bute rematch at sometime next year. Not to mention that he has already once passed on his chance to exercise the rematch clause in the contract from the first fight.

Stevenson elected to move up in weight, for whatever reason. Maybe the Dawson fight paid better than running the risk of a low-profile vacant title fight.

Froch took this fight with the understanding that win, lose or draw he wouldn't leave the ring with IBF title still in tow. It instead worked out in his favor, without any begging or even asking. It's hardly a conspiracy theory.

C'mon man - Stevenson became Froch's mando how long now? 9 months. Now, in that 9 months, Froch fought Mack, & now is fighting Kessler. What is he supposed to do - stick his fingers in his a$$, waiting for Froch? Not that I like him fighting Chad, but he has to do what's best for him. Now, if he gets past Kessler, he can rematch Bute with his belt & Kessler's in tow. Like I said, BS.

Froch has to give it back to Bute...
(Only few people know why he has to...)
