Comments Thread For: Mikkel Kessler Promises: I Will Retire if Carl Froch Wins

During his open workout, the "Viking Warrior" Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35KOs) told reporters, once again, that he will retire from the sport if he loses the upcoming rematch with Carl Froch (30-2, 22KOs). The two fighters will go for the IBF/WBA super middleweight titles on May 25th at the O2 Arena in London.

Kessler, 34-years-old, won a tough twelve round decision over Froch in 2010, but the Danish star has been bothered by numerous injruies over the last couple of years.

I noticed this. He says if he wins he would prefer to rematch Froch again.
Almost like he wants to give Froch a win lol

Mikkel will probably lose, but I will be rooting for him. He needs to KO Froch to get the win. If he wins, another Ward fight should be the target, and then retirement.

It's not a good sign. He's been saying this a couple of times now. Maybe deep down, he knows he will lose this fight.

Sounds like he's just showing how confident he is that he will win... to make a statement like that. It will be a tough fight for both of them, especially at this point in their careers. I like both, so it's tough to pick a favorite.

I don't know why Mikkel would say this. The first fight was a good close brawl. There is no shame in losing to Froch whom he already has a win over. It would be different if ended up 0-2 and lost widely on points, but that's not the case. I agree, I think retirement is on his mind.

You'd have to be a fool to bet on Kessler when he is talking like this. I expect this to be easy work for Carl Froch.
