Comments Thread For: Golovkin-Macklin Card: Oosthuizen vs. Gonzales is Likely

According to promoter Lou DiBella, discussions are going forward in a very positive manner, and a deal is likely, for IBO super middleweight champion Thomas Oosthuizen (21-0, 13 KOs) to face Brandon Gonzalez (17-0, 10 KOs) on June 29th as part of an HBO televised tripleheader. The main event would feature a middleweight fight between WBA/IBO middleweight king Gennady Golovkin (26-0, 23 KOs) and Matthew Macklin (29-4, 20 KOs).

They should be able to find somebody for Willie. Grab up K9 or something.

Sergey Rabchenko or Brian Rose would make good opponents for Willy Nelson.

Great match up and one im looking forward to a real war

Fair play to Macklin for taking this when a lot of other supposedly top class tough boxers have turned GG down

Just three days ago it was certain that Macklin was ducking and dodging like no other........what happened from then till now? More than a few posters were absolutely sure Macklin would rather jump off a cliff than jump in the ring with the destroyer of men.

Maybe Macklin read the posts here and his ego got the best of his judgement?

Oosthuizen is a good boxer too, he is going to beat up on Gonzalez pretty badly.

Money, probably. Just a week ago Macklin said he wouldn't fight Golovkin in June and said he wanted a tune up. Now he's changed his mind so I reckon he liked the deal he was offered.

This is turning out to be a great card providing that all the fights get made. Ggg vs macklin will be awesome but I'm really interested in the Gonzalez oosthizuen fight. Maybe the winner can fight George groves to set up a fight against froch or one of the other champions
