Comments Thread For: Javier Fortuna-Miguel Zamudio: April 19th at The Tropicana

Tickets start at $40 and go on sale today (Tuesday, April 2) at 5 pm ET for the Friday, April 19, 2013, "Fortuna vs. Zamudio", a night of world-championship professional boxing being presented by Sampson Boxing at the Tropicana Casino & Resort in Atlantic City and live on ESPN Friday Night Fights.

In the night's main event, La Romana, Dominican Republic's dynamic Javier "El Abejon" Fortuna (21-0, 15 KOs) will defend his interim WBA World featherweight title against Sinaloa, Mexico's Miguel "Mikol" Zamudio (25-1-1, 13 KOs) in an intriguing 12-round clash.

This will be the first title defense for the always exciting Fortuna, who won the crown last December against Ireland's Patrick Hyland via 12-round decision. [Click Here To Read More]

Does anyone know if this kid can test Fortuna at all? Or are we looking at a tune-up fight or something....I kind of want to see a good and very competitive fight. But I have no clue what this kid brings to the table. Any insight?

Don't get why Sampson got him the WBA interim belt when he'll never get a chance at Chris John. It's only detrimental because having a belt doesn't allow him to move up the rankings of other orgs so he could get a mandatory spot for a real belt.

Considering the fight is about 2 weeks out I'm guessing its a tune up to make Fortuna look good.

Not only that but I don't like Fortuna at 126 at all. His stamina didn't look too good vs Hyland. Idk if it was cause he's never been that far into a fight or the weight cut. Anyway, maybe they're hoping John retires?

You might be right and I don't think its stamina because he has gone the distance before without any issue. Perhaps, he should campaign at 130lbs instead. I hope they don't wait until he looses to move him up. We shall see.

Now that I think about it, he has gone 10 like twice before. But I think he actually started slowing down vs Hyland around the mid rounds. Before the fight I didn't like the idea of fighting at 126 and I still don't. He still has his speed and power at 130 so Idk why move down.

It could be that weight has something to do with him slowing down but honestly I always felt like when realizes that his apponent can take his best shot and remain standing he gets discouraged a little bit and that can't be good. The only good thing about that is that he seems to focus more on boxing and is less wild. Anyhow, not sure about the 126 and 130...perhaps, they think there is more to gain at 126lbs? But he should start to move up and maybe stay at 135lbs for a while if his power holds up there. Only time will tell....only time.
