Comments Thread For: McKenzie-Maccarinelli II Added To 4/20 'Rule Britannia' Show

Commonwealth Light-Heavyweight Champion Ovill McKenzie and Enzo Maccarinelli will face each again at Wembley Arena on Saturday 20th April after their first fight ended in a storm of controversy.

When they clashed last November in Liverpool, McKenzie retained his title with a second round stoppage of the Swansea puncher with referee Ian John Lewis stepping in to stop a barrage of punches from the Derby hitter.

Many ringside observers felt that Maccarinelli - a former WBO World Cruiserweight Champion who won the British title in his previous fight against Shane McPhilbin - was halted prematurely after he was holding his own against McKenzie.

Both fighters wanted to do it again and the fight will now feature as chief-support on Frank Warren’s bumper Wembley Arena show, alongside Liam Walsh’s WBO European Lightweight title defence against former two-time World Champion Scott Harrison, on the undercard of Nathan Cleverly’s WBO World Light-Heavyweight title defence against Robin Krasniqi, live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/****** Ch. 546). They need to keep Ian John Lewis the hell away from the rematch. That was one of the worst stoppages I've seen in a British ring, terrible decision.

Like everyone else the ref was expecting a lights out KO and he felt it his duty to make sure that didnt happen. Problem is he jumped in too soon and deprived the paying public of a fight, robbed Enzo and denied Mckenzie of a satisfactory finish and at the same time tarnished his rep as a pretty decent ref.

Glad a rematch is happening even though I dont see it ending well for Enzo. Let its go to its natural conclusion.

Ive never thought john lewis was a decent ref as hes messed uo too many times but in britain we dont have any decent refs apart from micky vann

All because hes over 65 the board wont let him ref in their fights even though he still refs world championship fights abroad

To be fair, i'm glad Enzo got a rematch. The stoppage in the first fight was possibly the worst i've ever seen.

Don't really want to see Enzo anywhere near a ring again to be brutally honest with you...

...something went badly and lastingly wrong for him in that fight with Haye (both physically and mentally) and seeing a 32 year-old guy who is 6'4 boiling himself down to LHW and who has + 40 fights is sad to see.

Interesting comments about Mr. Vann and John-Lewis as well....Vann clearly a cut above the younger man and still good enough to be given the Sturm v Soliman fight despite the absurd views of the British Board of Control.

Who cares if Enzo got ****ed by a referee? He and Warren cheated McPhilbin, so it's just karma.
