Comments Thread For: Dereck Chisora Wants To Help Revive The Sport

British heavyweight Dereck Chisora has said it is up to people like him to revive a sport that he says is 'dead'.

The controversial fighter was talking a week after finally regaining his British boxing licence.

The 29-year-old Zimbabwe-born fighter lost his licence after his world title opportunity against WBC title-holder Vitali Klitschko in Munich just over a year ago turned into a weekend of chaos and shame.

Chisora slapped his opponent during the weigh-in, spat water in the face of Vitali's brother and cornerman Wladimir before the bout and brawled with compatriot David Haye at the post-fight press conference.

It depends what Chisora means by reviving the sport - acting like a yob does'nt mean reviving the sport bringing boxing in the headlines for the wrong reasons does'nt mean reviving the sport having staged set-up brawls doe'/nt mean reviving the sport - we need people who will be exciting in the ring we only have to look at the likes of Sugar Ray leonard as a perfect example thats how you do it- go away Chisora the sport does not need characters like you.

Chisora is right to an extent, the sport needs characters.

Chisora is good for the HW division, as long as he doesn't get too outta line with his antics.

I think the ship has sailed with Chisora's antics crossing the line lol He slapped the HW champ at a weigh in, spat in wlads faceb4 his fight, had a brawl with D haye at a press conference, beat his GF up lol and been in court many other times lol

Great guy for boxing though, brings in lots of viewers when ever he fights.

But he took his punishment, he's coming back to a fresh start. And as you say, great guy for boxing.

Only 2 of those incidents were deplorable. Slapping VK and the violence against women.

Seriously though, nobody is on WK's back for his position in the spitting incident. What the **** is he doing staring down his brother's opponent just before VK is about to fight. That should be condemned in itself. What's Chisora supposed to do, just stand there and let WK intimidate him? He can't punch him, he can't do anything that might get him DQ'd from the VK fight, so he came up with something inventive, as gross as it was.

As for the Haye incident. Haye shouldn't have been there, and Haye was the one that attacked Chisora. Haye then busts up his own trainer with a tripod before breaking Chisora's trainer's jaw.

Chisora's most boring fight was the only one he turned up in pathetic condition for (Fury) and even that wasn't boring, just a bit farcical.

The guy is good for boxing, whether you like him or not. Just like Haye's gob is good for boxing.

I've been a bit of a fan of Chisora ever since his smashed up Sexton in a really great fight, and although he does the occasional deplorable thing, he is generally an exciting fighter. He actually does **** in the ring. I actually thought he was on course to beat Haye until Haye took his head off (Haye was 1-2 rounds away from gassing).

He's not bad. I have him pegged as the UK's 4th best heavyweight, but he is an asshole.
