I think you have it backwards, it was HBO that helped nurture an upstart GBP by giving them guaranteed dates to build their company. De La Hoya was built by HBO and fought his entire career exclusively with them. Not to mention HBO groomed Canelo, Khan, Garcia, Broner, etc. If it wasn't for HBO I'm not so sure GBP would have the clout it has today. -
Since GB helped build the HBO boxing empire i', a little upset , plus now i have to find a friend with showtime ?Leave a comment:

This HBO Showtime thing will be real interesting.... It opened the door for match ups we might not normally see on HBO.... While GB and Showtime can remain in bed together with their showcases and TBA's... With CBS money might not be as big of a factor as I once thought but I do see pay cuts and possibly better stacked cards to accommodate everyone
140-147 is shaping up real nice for TR.... With Manny around for at least another year and Marquez playing coy along with TR working with the other promoters out there their stable at the weight should be just fineLeave a comment:

And who gets robbed? Us ,the fans. The ones who put money in their pockets. The ones who keeps Boxing alive. Without the fans Boxing would die. These two money hungry promoters are killing the sport. Focused on their own retirement and not caring about nothing or nobody. Its just a shame!

By Robert Morales - First Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions and Bob Arum's Top Rank Inc. - the world's top two promotional companies - weren't doing business unless forced to.
Now HBO drops Golden Boy from its list of clients.
What it could mean is that fights that were already tough to make because of the ongoing beef between the Golden Boy and Top Rank, probably just got tougher.
Instead of one separation of powers, now we have another. Golden Boy will play only with Showtime on the big stage, Top Rank only with HBO because Showtime hasn't been giving it the business anyway.
And don't think those with big stakes in the industry aren't concerned with the latest bombshell dropped by HBO on Monday morning. Robert Garcia, who trains the likes of world-class fighters Nonito Donaire, Brandon Rios and Mikey Garcia, is one of them.
"We definitely have to worry about it because there's so many big fights, so many big things that should be happening and we might never see them," Garcia said.
"Right now, I could say, 'OK, I have Brandon, I have Mikey, I have Nonito.' Those are all HBO fighters, so I could say, 'More dates for us.' [Click Here To Read More]Tags: None
