TOOWOOMBA-trained Les Sherrington and Jack Asis maintained a perfect winning start to the year for Smithy's Gym boxers with comprehensive victories in Townsville last night.
Sherrington - the reigning WBF world middleweight and WBO Asia Pacific champion - overcame an opening round head-cut to outpoint Argentinean Esteban Ponce in a shortened bout.
Asis completed his seventh straight victory with a unanimous points win on the undercard over Indonesia's Rivo Rengkung.
Trainer Brendon Smith said both fighters dug deep for exceptional victories.
"Les was outstanding and did a hell of a job after receiving a nasty gash to his forehead in a huge head clash just 15 seconds into the fight," Smith said.
