There is a possibility junior welterweight contenders Dierry Jean and Cleotis “Mookie” Pendarvis could fight for an elimination bout towards a world title shot, promoter Steven Bash told Boxingscene.com Sunday night.
The IBF put out a call to contenders as to who was available to fight for the number one ranking, which is currently vacant. Lamont Peterson is the current IBF world title holder, recently defending the title against Kendall Holt.
Bash spoke about the possibility of Jean and Pendarvis facing one another last week. Both fighters are ranked in the top 10 in the IBF rankings at 140 pounds. Jean is ranked number three, while Pendarvis is ranked number seven.
