  • Comments Thread For: Miguel Vazquez Explains Withdrawal From Burns Fight

As reported early this morning, an aggressive stomach infection suffered by the IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez, has forced him to withdrew from the scheduled fight with WBO champion Ricky Burns. The fight was postponed from March 16th to April 20th, at Wembley Arena in London, England.

Vazquez says he came to Tijuana on February 17th to sign the contract for the fight. He was going through the final hurdle of his camp when he got sick from eating bad seafood and stayed away from training camp for a week. Vazquez is taking some very strong medications to treat the problem.

Burns' promoter Frank Warren says the fight will be rescheduled to April 20th.

He withdrew and it was postponed, maybe. Burns' team won't even confirm the fight will even happen on 4/20 and that's not exactly a positive sign.

What Vazquez needs to do is withdraw completely and let Burns and Broner get it on, Vazquez could fight Abril at a later date.

Things like this happen all the time. Burns and his team need to stop sulking and decide what they want to do. Five weeks here and there is no big deal, why rush to get your arse kicked by Broner when you could fight Vasquez and find yourself in a better negotiating position.
