Comments Thread For: Sauerland Protests WBA's Decision on Klitschko-Povetkin

The World Boxing Association has received a protest from promoter Kalle Sauerland of Sauerland Event, who disagrees with their recent resolution to the situation between unified heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and WBA "regular" champion Alexander Povetkin.

The WBA granted Klitschko's application to make a voluntary defense on April 6th. Povetkin is the mandatory challenger and the WBA had previously ordered Wladimir to face him.

There was one condition, the WBA would have to receive a signed contract for a figh between Klitschko and Povetkin by the deadline of February 28. If they don't reach a deal, then Klitschko vs. Povetkin will head to a purse bid on March 18. If a deal is reached, then the fight must be held by the end of July.

A 75-25 split sounds about right. Why does Sauerland think that Povetkin deserves more?

The WBA simply needs to order this fight or it will never be made. This has been ridiculous for too long.

The problem is Sauerland won't win a purse bid against K2. It pisses them off.

Problem is they are ****** enough to bid a $$$ amount they cannot afford and then pull out of it just to waste Wlad's time.

Hyrunov and Sauerland combined are the most dishonest combo of manager/promoter in the entire sport at the moment.

Why don't they just go ahead and strip Povetkin?

He won't fight Wladimir unless it's for a massive, massive cash-out that he simply hasn't earned. 25% is FAR MORE than fair. Povetkin doesn't deserve a shot in general after pulling out when he was the mandatory.

If they don't agree on these terms how does the bidding normally go? Can someone explain?

Nobody thinks Povetkin has a snowball's chance in hell vs Wlad, including Povetkin and Sauerland.

Marco Huck beat the crap out of Povetkin and got robbed. Wlad will just beat the crap out of Povetkin and end the Russian's sadly underachieving career.

Basically, the promotor who puts the most money on the table earns the right to host the event, gets the tv rights, etc. They then have to negotiate and reach an agreement on the split and how much Wlad and Povetkin will get paid for the fight, respectively.
