Unheralded fringe contender Kohei Kono scored a major upset - officially and visually - with a stunning fourth round stoppage of Tepparith Kokeitgym to claim a piece of the 115 lb. crown.

Kono entered the fight riding a modest two-fight win streak after having lost three in a row. Meanwhile, Kokeitgym was gaining traction on incumbent titlist Omar Narvaez in discussion for the best 115 lb. fighter in the world.

What a day in Japan WAR UCHIYAMA

Uchiyama really needs to get himself Stateside now, he's a great little fighter. So many great fights to be made in that division too.

Japan's a rising boxing nation who are dominate in the lower weights but lack the success at the higher weights. They do things properly, no messing about with padded records over in Japan.

There is a Japanese heavyweight prospect, fought on Ioka's undercard in his 6th fight against a much more experienced opponent. His resume is very impressive for the amount of fights he's had not to mention the likes of Ioka, Tobe, Oguni etc.

Love Japanese boxing myself.Gamboa vs Uchiyama in the US would be sweet but i doubt Yuris handlers would risk it with the Broner fight still possible although after beating Farenas he would be quite high on the WBAs rankings.Winner off Salgado/Mendez in a unification is not a bad substitute
