  • Comments Thread For: Pavlik Gives Background on Hopkins, Martinez Defeats

During a recent edition of ATG Radio, I had the chance to speak to former middleweight King, Kelly Pavlik, as he gets ready to prepare for his biggest test in the super middleweight division against WBC/WBA champion Andre Ward. Pavlik had a lot to say in his one hour detailed interview with the ATG crew. He decided to go all out when discussing his loses to Bernard Hopins and Sergio Martinez, as well as his split with longtime trainer Jack Loew. When these subjects were brought up Kelly had this to
    say:

It's nice to get some down to earth talk time to time from a fighter, but honestly, what will he say when he loses to Ward? Don't get me wrong, I love watching me some K Pav, but I can't see him beating a moving fighter like Ward... I just hope he doesn't go on again to blame his team...

Fine excuses Ghost. However I've drawn my own conclusion. I'll stick with they were just better fighters than you.

So Pavlik is saying that he is in the best shape of his life for this Ward fight then? No excuses after the fight Kelly!

I highly doubt he will make excuses if he loses.

Problem is that even if he is in the best shape of his life and fights his best fight ever he will still most likely lose to a far superior fighter.

As long as he puts in a strong effort it won't be the last time you see Kelly Pavlik on TV. His name and style will get him future fights so long as he doesn't humiliate himself with how he fights or what he says.

I expect him to sell out and give Ward his toughest test to date. Pavlik has always given fans good action fights, no reason to expect different in this one.

Wonder how many Pavlik 'fans' made serious money off him in the past? Point being, it sure is easy to get on the Diss Pavlik Express, but really, the guy did alot for boxing, and he will always be in some interesting fights. More than can be said for many fighters. If Garcia keeps teaching him movement, and if he gets back that excellent piston like jab he had (and sometimes shows now), he will be hard to beat. I don't feel good about him fighting Ward yet, but I think he'll make a good accounting of himself win or lose. I would just rather see him in there with Abraham or someone like that.

I like Pavlik but c'mon now. Lowe wasn't the one hitting the bottle or getting in trouble with the law. Plain and simple Hopkins and Sergio are better, period.

i agree, i think even if he had a great camp (not just saying it) he would still lose to the guys he did lose to.

i'm sure robert garcia will help him come up with one if he wanted to use one.

looks like the fight's not happening though...

"I am one of those people who doesn't like to make excuses or give reasons why I lost fights, I am willing to know though because I am tired of holding my tongue"
The hyphocrisy of this statement is incredible. He is saying I'm not the kind of guy that will make excuses, but here's some excuses.

"I can't really knock the cutman, but it is what it is"
I refuse to directly say the person that I HIRED for my cutman ****** at his job, but I'm going to bring him up in reference to what went wrong without actually saying it so you know how I feel.

Kelly, Kelly. Still immature as hell.
