Comments Thread For: Julio Diaz vs Hector Sanchez Early Results From Indio, Calif.

Former lightweight titlist Julio Diaz seeks his second straight win as he faces super lightweight prospect Hector Sanchez in the main event at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.

Diaz (39-7, 28KO) suffered a brutal knockout loss to Kendall Holt last summer to interrupt a two-fight win streak following back-to-back losses. What exactly the 32-year old hopes to accomplish at this stage of his career is perhaps not in touch with reality, though the one-time Top 5 lightweight almost always makes for fun fights.

Sanchez (19-2, 9KO) has lost two of his past three and is on the verge of fading from prospect to steppingstone. The Puerto Rican has been plagued by inactivity, having not fought since last September and with just three total fights in the past 29 months heading into Saturday's affair. Cancio is well on his way to becoming one of the most mediocre fighters seen on TV. I won't call him a club fighter - that would be an insult to club fighters.

Cancio thought it was a good idea to leave his trainer of 10 years 4 weeks before the fight. Common sense says that's going to have an effect. Compare the Juarez fight to this one, it's not the same fighter. His body didn't look the same either.

He could have had Roach, Steward, or Garcia and it wouldn't mean a thing. He had his butt handed to him by 9-2 Carcamo. He is a club fighter, nothing more.
