Why did Floyd want Cotto's WBA belt at 154,but not Shane's WBA belt at 147?

Can anyone explain this??cause he would have been a 9 time champion now instead of a 8 time champion

    Lord knows.

My guess is that Mayweather wanted to act like he's so great that he doesn't need to fight for a belt.

After all, he was going through his "Belts collect dust" stage.

But that's just a guess. He should have just fought for it.

That's what Cotto wanted. Same thing with Ortiz. They wanted it that way in the negotiations. Floyd didn't care for Ortiz's belt either, but Ortiz wanted it that way. Sometimes these little details were mentioned during fight night of the PPV (like with the case of Ortiz).

I think when you get to Floyd's level belts become meaningless.

From my understanding Floyd was not interested in Shane's belt because he was trying to avoid the sanctioning fees for being a title holder. How that changed in the Ortiz and Cotto fight? I don't know.

Mayweather was in two different spaces for each fight. When he fought Shane, he just needed an opponent to make a ppv event. When he had fought Cotto and Ortiz, he came back with something to prove and he felt that a belt would make it official. Make the fight feel like it was something on the line.

This. If I remember correctly, Floyd didn't want to pay the sanctioning fees for that belt.

Floyd needed the money more at that point in time~ against Cotto his financial situation was a bit improved so he didn't mind springing for the belt.

So will history give him credit for the Mosley title win?
