    The year is, let’s say, 2062. The family of Sergio Martinez is celebrating what would be 87 years on the earthly plane as they gather for a reading of his will. There is more to go around then there might have been after eleven rounds of his first bout with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. One of his grandchildren, a doctor who Grandpa Champ put through medical school, nods knowingly.

    Chavez didn't seem like the punching bag like he was before to me. He kept his gloves up and made it hard for Martinez to land cleanly. I don't know how I would rate his pre and post fight defense, but I would have increased the grade, not lowered it. But defending was all he did in this fight so it's hard to tell really. Didn't get to see much of his defense while attacking, which is more important.

      That was my thinking. He mostly just followed in straight lines and went LONG stretches without doing anything offensive and still was pretty tore up at night's end.
