Comments Thread For: Frank Warren on Hatton's Return, Froch, Cleverly, More

AFTER amazing Olympic successes for the amateurs, the professionals are back.

Britain’s three world champions — Nathan Cleverly, Carl Froch and Ricky Burns — are in action over the next couple of months.

Cleverly’s next defence of the WBO world light-heavyweight title will be announced on Monday.

It’s proved tough making a match for the young unbeaten Welshman with a number of high-profile fights falling through for various reasons.

The main target was American great Bernard Hopkins but after I agreed terms with his promoter Golden Boy, he pulled out. We’ll look to resurrect the fight next year.

IBF world supermiddleweight champion Froch turned down a huge purse to step up a division to take on Cleverly. [Click Here To Read More]

I was hoping for a little more info on Hatton. There's the possibility Hatton will possibly fight on ITV IF he comes back. That's some good stuff.

It would be great for boxing if Ricky came back on free TV

Kazakstan's WBA 175LB champion Beibut Shumenov called Clev out for a unification fight in the USA which is a fight that makes sence on nuetral ground & is a contest I'd personally love to see.The rumour going around though is that Clev's gonna fight someone called Denis Simcec who's rated # 74 in the IBO computerized rankings, is not by the WBA/WBC, #11 by the IBF & strangly #3 by the WBO. Sorry Frank, but you really must try harder!

          It would be huge here.

‘Hitman’ return may get terrestrial coverage, says promoter

Promoter Frank Warren has stated in his latest column in The Sun that Ricky Hatton’s potential ring return later this year might well be landing on terrestrial TV after the former two-weight world champion’s departure from Sky Sports.

Hatton, 33, is yet to confirm several media reports of a November comeback to boxing following a three-year absence, although many on the mainstream British journalists, including Steve Bunce and Jeff Powell, are now warming to the rumours.

Warren only briefly mentions Hatton in his weekly spot in the tabloid, but that will be enough to convince many that the wheels are already in motion for Hatton to embark on a career redemption after his devastating loss to Manny Pacquaio.

The Manchester fighter is already close to fighting shape as he trains himself, along with several of his Hatton Promotions fighters in his Hyde gym, and would have the boxing fans queuing around the block to see him fight again.

Mooted channel ITV had the monopoly on live British boxing in the 1980’s and 1990’s, but has long been overshadowed by Sky Sports and now BoxNation in the past few years, although screening Hatton would be a major coup.

The ‘Hitman’ was recently released by Sky after his contract with the broadcasters expired and head of boxing Adam Smith may be kicking himself over the decision if Hatton makes an announcement in the coming weeks.

If Huck & Hernandez are successful in there up coming fights, then surely that unification should be the easiest one in the World to make!
