Comments Thread For: Autopsy: Tapia Died of Heart Problems, Not Drugs

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The wife of the late Johnny Tapia says the six-time world boxing champion's death was related to heart problems and not because of a drug overdose.

Your heart is what is affected the most when using drugs. Eventually if the heart starts failing, most of the body organs start failing as well. He wasn't taking drugs anymore, but it was all those years he did. Still, Johnny was a warrior inside and outside the ring and we are not born perfect.

Not necessarily. Can be genetic. Plenty of clean sober people die from heart problems all the time.

That is true but we're talking about a guy who was heavily on drugs...

Investigators found one Hydrocodone tablet, a painkiller, on the floor beside his body. They said there were no indicators of an overdose or alcohol use, but that he likely developed medical complications from past illegal drug use.

Tapia says her husband was taking medication for his bipolar disorder.
I would not be surprised if the legal drugs were what caused his death, but his past illegal drug use can be used as a curtain... Well wishes to the Tapia family.
