By Jake Donovan - The light welterweight finals is on tap next, with Roniel Iglesias of Cuba and Denis Beinchyk of Ukraine looking to earn their respective nations its first Gold medal in 2012 Olympic boxing competition.

Iglesias' journey to the finals was a difficult road traveled. Despite having captured Olympic bronze, the Cuban's lack of major accomplishments beyond winning the 2009 amateur championships placed him in an unfavorable seed in this year's light welterweight field.

Four wins later, the seeding has proven to be unfavorable for everyone in his path. Included among them was the defending world amateur champion, Everton Lopes of Brazil, who was eliminated in Round of 16 competition. [Click Here To Read More]

Iglesias winning gold was truly my greatest hope for these Olympic Games. I'm thrilled that he got it done. Now I can see him becoming a factor at 130 or 135 in the pros, if he defects.

Roniel looks good. Teddy Atlas mentioned that his style would be suitable for the pros. I have to agree. Iglesias could start as a lightweight, but he might even have a future as a welterweight some day.

But as good as Roniel seems, the Cuban that I've been watching from the outset is Robeisy Ramirez. At eighteen years old, he's the youngest of a young team. Ramirez is clearly very talented. He's very skilled and poised for such a young guy. Hopefully Robeisy joins Iglesias tomorrow as the only two Cubans to win gold in boxing.

And, hopefully, both these kids miss the plane to Havana! lol

He's very skilled and poised for such a young guy. Hopefully Robeisy joins Iglesias tomorrow as the only two Cubans to win gold in boxing.

I'll have to pay more attention tomorrow, as I haven't watched the flyweights as much as I should have. Good luck to him though.

He got a pretty exciting style too.

I think we could've gotten gold in Super HW too if the Cuban hadn't been robbed vs Anthony Joshua.

Man I'm really happy for this guy, Sotolongo. When I first spotted him the game, I thought this guy is the real thing and I'm going to support him. His style and skills are exciting to watch. I'm glad he made it to the final and won a Gold.
