WBA "regular" middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (23-0, 20KOs) is all set to face EBU king Grzegorz Proksa (28-1, 21KOs) at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York. HBO will televise. Golovkin was previously scheduled to face WBO champion Dmitry Pirog (20-0, 15KOs), who withdrew a few weeks ago with a back injury.

Proksa is a poor mans Martinez. It's scary how similar they are. He just doesn't have the maturity yet though or the skill which comes from experience that he's lacking. The Hope loss did him well, he came back strong. But it was against a 1-1 stay busy 4 rounder (wtf?) before teh rematch with Hope where he didn't look any different. In fact, I had him losing before the KO.

Golovkin though hasn't had a big enough test as a pro either. he actually looked worse against Ouma than Chavez did against Zbik. So there are definitely still question marks surrounding these 2. All questions will be answers soon though, and sky is truly the limit for the winner of this fight.

It's likely the only person in these lists that Sturm will fight is Pirog or Golovkin. So I won't cross my fingers yet. it's likely Martinez doesn't fight anyone on the radar either as the names aren't big enough in the states.

I'd hate to say he's ducking.. but the top of the division is full of unknowns. Once Chavez is done with, who else is there to fight unless you go back down to 154?

Sucks that two of my favorite middleweights have to fight each other so soon when they could whoop chumps like Sturm and Geale first and then unify later.

Anyway it's gonna be a good fight, Proksa is gonna give Golovkin a run for his money before getting stopped.
