Tyson is the most obvious answer and like Raesaad said, if you're going to use that excuse, please dont fight because every defeat is justified.

So there are examples of when the excuse becomes more of a reason....

Roy's KO loss to Tarver was not an issue of being in your prime. It was an issue of Tarver crippling a myth, and Jones being too mentally crushed as a fighter to win a fight after it.

Tyson's loss to Douglas had nothing to do with his prime.

Trinidad's loss to Hopkins had nothing to do with Trinidad being out of his prime.

Let me add Jones still has his speed and is still very hard to hit... but now that he's fighting a boxer who can reach his chin and do damage, he's "out of his prime"

Roy was still good enough to beat Tarver (and he did the first time).

"Out of prime" doesn't mean you automatically get your assed kicked like with RJJ.

Especially when Hopkins is older that Tito.

                Oh, although bringing Tyson up.

I really do get pissed off when people say Tszyu was out of his prime. Most boxing punters said Tszyu will win nice and easy, and Tszyu himself said that he was in a better condition than what he was prior to some of his previous fights.

NOW THAT ^^^ is a classic example of the prime excuse in action.

All I said was your first loss has nothing to do with being in your prime. Roy fought absolutely nobody from 1995-2002. In 2003 he stepped up against Tarver and the next year he got annihilated. Roy wasn't out of his prime. His myth was crushed.

Roy Jones was not at his best against Tarver...

BUT.....that didn't stop me from thinking he would beat Tarver (fights 1 & 2).

I thought he'd beat Tarver, but he got blasted. So, all credit to Tarver.
Saying Jones wasn't at his best does not take away from Tarver's accomplishment.
