Comments Thread For: Bob Shannon Discusses Ricky Hatton's Comeback

Rumors that Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton might be tempted to make a comeback have circulated in recent weeks despite the lack of an official announcement one way or another from the former light-welterweight world champion. Hatton, won also won the WBA belt up at welterweight, lost his last fight, a second round stoppage to Manny Pacquiao, and made the decision to retire after launching a successful promoting career. Hatton's only other defeat was a tenth-round TKO to Floyd “Money” Mayweather in December 2007.

Stay retired Ricky! Talking of Denton Vassell, how about matching him with Junior Witter for the British & Commonwealth 147lb belta at stake?

Hatton is like 34, he slurrs when he talks and has been fat as **** for so long

best to stay retired, but i am guessing it maybe financial issues given his lifestyle and over spending...Ricky Hatton promotions is a huge failure, so maybe a way for him to personally promote his own brand, anyways it'll be for all the wrong reasons to comeback and then possibly lose

Spoke to a few people close to him and Jnr Witter seems to be the fight they are going after. (Apparently after a heated telephone call about Witter fighting Matthew!!)

I think Paulie Malignaggi as a comeback is a step to far after such a long lay off plus with the shape Hatton allowed himself to balloon to..

Witter at 147 Manchester MEN Arena.. Hatton could fill it easily - if all looks well then go for Malignaggi or possibly even Khan??? The latter being an absolute massive UK fight.

Hatton is way to old to be a punchbag

This guy was a human punchbag for his entire career, it'd be a sorry sight to see him comeback and lose, i don't think he should do that to himself. He said he was very depressed after the Pacman fight and went on a bender soon after, imagine how he will react when he loses again.

Maybe a one off fight with Jnr Witter, Malignaggi will pick him apart, everyone now knows the blueprint on how to beat Hatton. I don't see Khan vs Hatton, since they are good friends, money wise it would be huge, probably biggest british fight since Eubank VS Ben, actually even bigger, although Khan will not earn any respect beating old Hatton.

Hatton seems like he has money troubles

I'm an American so I didn't see as much of Hatton's career as many of you probably have, saw his fights from Tszyu on. But I for one would like to see him fight again. He was typically in good fights, as long as he didn't do too much of the hit n hold, and the promotions were always entertaining. If he can get in shape and still has his old form I'd pick him to beat Malinaggi again. If the man can be favored over a world champion why shouldn't he come back if he has the desire? And of course there's only one of him

He's always blown up between fights, it amazes me when people think he can't lose weight, it's all he's ever done and he looks in decent nick of late.

                  calm down pike

you are telling me ricky hatton doesnt slur? ive watched hatton over the years the guy has the boxers slur. he took some beatings, even in most of the fights he won took some hard licks.

i like hatton, but i don't think he should step in the ring again, especially if it's for the wrong reasons.

he has a nice legacy, he fought two of the best and lost, no shame in that, but coming back and then possibly losing or ruining his health is not good.

hatton is 34, the amount off beatings he took aged him by another 10 years

also this is the longest break he ever took, yeah he ballooned up between fights, but that was only for a few months.
