Is has been announced in Mexico that WBC super bantamweight champion Abner Mares (24-0-1, 13KOs) will not make the first defense of his title on August 25th in Puebla, Mexico against Christian Esquivel (25-3, 18KOs). Last week the fight was announced by Gala Boxing. No reason was provided for the cancellation, but the Mares camp promises to provide more information in the coming days.

That would be a helluva fight and judging by the fact Mares wanted to defend in Mexico, Santa Cruz, along with his style, would be the perfect opponent for Abner.
