Comments Thread For: The Bradley Challenge: Boxing Before Razzle-Dazzle

by Cliff Rold - The best fights in boxing often combine the naked promise of violence between two notable warriors in peak form with, to borrow from the musical “Chicago,” a little of the old razzle-dazzle. If the fight is right, it doesn’t need bells and whistles but boxing can’t help itself.

Joe Frazier-Muhammad Ali I was already the biggest fight anyone could ask for in 1971, but it still brought extras like Frank Sinatra taking pictures for Life Magazine because he couldn’t get a ticket. Does anyone in their right mind really think, really, the Chairman of the Board couldn’t get a ticket anywhere he wanted in NYC? Ever?

    Razzle-dazzle ‘em.

There are plenty of fights where the razzle-dazzle is turned up a notch because the promise of violence has to be hedged. The late, great Bert Sugar would have called it ballyhoo, using the total experience of a prizefight event to mask flaws in the matchmaking alone.

The promotion of Manny Pacquiao, for all his great accomplishments, has seen some razzle-dazzle recently. While Antonio Margarito and Juan Manuel Marquez performed better than most assumed they would, Marquez nearly pulling off the upset last November, there is no denying his last three fights were all viewed as suspect before the opening bell. Margarito did not do better than most people thought he would. The hell did that come from? Got shut out and had his orbital bone broken, and should have been stopped by the ref or his own corner.

The Pacman vs Bradley Title fight is an answer to those who criticized Pacman in the past, that he never fought African-American Boxer.

Bradley is an Undefeated Champ, he deserved to be given credit and chance to beat Pacman.

However, I still think that Pacman has the higher percentages than Bradley, when it comes to pulling the trigger, and scoring KO victory.

          Betting favor

Man I wish I was at Las Vegas right now. I hear Pac is still the favorite, but not as high as the usual, to beat Tim this coming Saturday. I can't believe people actually give Bradley a better chance to beat Pac compared to JMM. Bradley is no technician. He's the type Pacman eats for breakfast. I say it's a TKO/KO in less than 10 rounds for Pacman. Sorry Bradley, but you're up against a beast.

I thought I was gonna feel this piece, that is of course until they compared Margarito's performance to Marquez's. I find the comparo disrespectful if nothing else.

Margarito was a cheater, bigger, physically stronger in an undeserving championship fight. He landed a couple body shots mid way through & really that's about it. He sure took a continuous pounding.

Meanwhile Marquez by comparison gave Pacman a lesson in boxing, being smaller, weaker & slower than him. Marquez moved laterally, controlled distance & countered Pacman all night. Making the bigger, stronger & faster Pacman look average at best.

I can't wait for this awsome fight! For me it will answer questions. Some of my best friends love Pac but they ain't real boxing fans either. Bernard Hopkins made that African American thing up it's not about that it's about the fact the none of Pac's opponents actually have a shot and my friends don't understand this. I can go all the way back to Barrera and Morales (his biggest wins) and say they were not in their prime when he beat them. So if Pac is the beast my friends say he is, then Tim will force him to show it so I say great matchup.

If Pacquiao struggles with Bradley, there is NO WAY that Manny is on Mayweather's level.

What if it's competitive like the Mayweather Cotto fight? Never expected Cotto to hang in there with Floyd and land punches.
