  • Comments Thread For: Arum Discusses Why Marquez's 7/14 Return Fell Through

As previously reported on Monday afternoon, WBO interim-junior welterweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39KOs) will not return to action on July 14th at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Marquez rejected several possible opponents that were presented by Top Rank, including Brandon Rios and Erik Morales.

Marquez has always made strange career choices like when he refused a 2nd pac fight 4 750,000 but then fought and lost to Chris John for 30,000, and I seriously doubt that Pac will ever fight him again

Yeah, odd indeed. I agree that Pacquiao will never fight him again.

Arum needs to start negotiating with Schaefer. Ortiz is the better alternative for Pac's next fight.

A rematch with Bradley is sure to happen if Pac loses.

JMM's trying to preserve his image of being the only guy who gave Pac a close fight! Cmon JMM, take the Morales fight to complete the series!

I think Marquez is one of the very the best in the world, but as a big fan i get embarrassed when he does this kind of stuff. Please go out and try some jr welterweight titles giving us fans some more NEW action.

U Don't Have To Like Arum, But He's Exactly Right! Bad Business By Marquez!

There's no guarantee Marquez gets a 4th shot at Manny; kind of a joke. He's not any smarter to understand Gesta-Who isn't known, is not a sell, just ****** business on Marquez' part. Nobody is going to pay to see Gesta OR Judah. Marquez could have BANKED a huge payday with countryman Legend Erik Morales. At the end of the day, if you're dead set on Pacquiao, it's about being conditioned, ring sharp. Marquez, knows how to fight southpaws. That should not be that big of a deal, at this point in his career, to opt for a right hand fighter in July, as opposed to thinking it's MANDATORY to get a southpaw. ******! Juan Manuel Marquez versus Erik Morales in July in Texas Stadium would have been JMM's biggest payday since Mayweather and Pacquiao III. Clearly would have been Morales' biggest payday ever! And would have been a HISTORIC Boxing event, a helluva fight, for the sport and fans alike. Marquez... ask yourself this... Pacquiao has given you three shots. He gave Morales multiple shots... He gave Barrera multiple shots. What if he chooses not to give you a 4TH SHOT? Then where do you go? Will you roll up into the fetal position, and cry foul the rest of your life? All the while you could have banked a MASSIVE payday fighting Morales in Texas Stadium in July, that would really make a strong case for you and Pacquiao in the Fall. Brandon Rios DOESN'T deserve a fight with JMM; his last outing against a tomatoe can was pathetic, and he needs to go dominate someone credible, before he gets a Prime Time future Hall of Famer. JMM NEEDS to reconsider his July/August plans, and meet in the middle of the ring with Erik Morales. In fact, I'd love seeing Pacquiao stiff Marquez in the Fall and fight Erik Morales again, since Marquez was unwilling to do as much.

Like I said it was also during that time when he refused to fight Morales for $1.2 million. JMM wanted more. Morales was calling him out a year ago and offered to take the smaller purse. JMM refused and still blames Morales for the fight not happening seven years ago.

When Khan joined GBP, Schaefer offered JMM Khan, which was his first fight in the US. Marquez was pissed saying he's being treated like a sacrificial lamb for building up Khan's career. Meaning, he's not confident of beating Khan.

So how many fights which fans find appealing would this guy duck in between Pac fights and always gets away with it? He was also offered Maidana a year ago...

Pac's decision always depends on Arum's input. Marquez has been pissing off Arum lately so go figure...
