Comments Thread For: Karim Mayfield Serves Notice In Beatdown Of Ray Serrano

By Jake Donovan - What began as a battle of unbeaten prospects resulted in a showcase performance for the winner.

Karim Mayfield had no issues whatsoever in storming through Ray Serrano en route to a fifth round knockout in their ESPN2-televised headliner Friday evening at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY.

Both fighters weighed in at 139 lb, one pound below the super lightweight division in which they regularly campaign.

With how easy to figure out his style is, the only thing he served notice on is that he'll throw right hands until his arm falls off with nothing else behind it. Keep your left hand up, and move to your right away from his right - you've pretty much got his only attack neutralized.

Watch his fights. There are plenty of spots where an opponent can throw a punch and score. Throw a basic 1-2 slip down to avoid his right counter, and come up with a left hook.

That, or throw the jab to feint him in, take a half step back and fill the hole when he comes forward with his straight right with your uppercut.

Plenty of areas to exploit this one trick pony.

Looks like some butthurt Serrano fans can't handle that Mayfield looked sensational in his win. He has already stopped Forbes and prospect Serrano. The only way to be more impressive is if he had knocked them both out in the first 10 seconds.

There are plenty of areas to exploit any fighter. Calling him a one-trick pony is ignorant and shows you don't know **** about boxing. You watch him once and think you know everything he is capable of or has done you dummy.

Everyone has a plan till they get hit dummy and if you knew anything about boxing, you would know this. You would also know that Mayfield used a fight plan that worked and has used combinations against other fighters. Next time do yourself a favor and watch more than one fight, son.

I know Manny has sparred Mayfield in the past, but he really could have used him in preparation for Bradley. A short, aggressive, explosive guy that's not afraid to use his head. Mayfield needs to improve on his stamina, but I was impressed.
