i think rahman has a good chance of beating povetkin

povetkin has a decent resume with wins over donald, byrd, ahunanya, chambers, boswell, chagaev, huck(i had him losing to huck 116-112)but do you notice anything about all his best opponents? none of them are bigger then him & none of them have real knock out power. he has been carefully matched & you could even say protected. he ducked 2 fights vs wladimir klitschko & is only fighting rahman because he was made the mandatory challenger after the 2 guys ahead of him(chagaev & himself) fought for the ****** regular title(which in my eyes was just a final eliminator). sauerland paid rahman twice to step aside so he could make some money before his fighter took on a dangerous heavyweight who could hurt him with one punch. rahman is bigger then sasha, will be able to take his best punches & has a great jab which is a weapon. he has big power in his right hand & povetkin can't seem to avoid rights thus far. this will be the 1st time we get to see how povetkin's chin holds up against a big puncher. the only real question(other then sasha's chin)coming into this fight is how good of shape will rahman be in? he gets a full training camp & has had almost a year to get ready. i'm very interested in this fight & am leaning towards rahman winning it...unless he comes in at 280lbs again...

I've always been a fan of Hasim Rahman. If he wins, I'll jump through the ceiling with happiness.

You're right. Just depends how hard Povetkin trains.

        Rahman has had better days,
        come to think of it
        Rahman has had better decades

He might have a punchers chance but at this point in his career he is being in strictly as an opponent.

Huck can **** and I think Povetkin would agree.

As for Rahman I see him as beeing too old slow and heavy to pose a serious threat. He would need to get lucky again like he did in South Africa but you dont win the lottery twice. I dont rate Povetrkin but if he stays busy and keeps his chin down he will win a landlside on points. He should have rematched Huck.

i did say that it all depends on what kind of shape rahman is in. he was 284 his last fight but that was almost a year ago. we will soon see how serious he is when he fights sasha. regardless he is walking away with a million dollars after getting $250000 to step aside for the boswell fight & I'm assuming a similar step aside check for the huck fight too.the real question is is rahman content with the money he will earn here or is he serious about gaining millions more if he beats povetkin. this is a huge opportunity to cash out. he made millions but from what i hear needs money the last few years & thats why he gladly took the step aside money twice knowing he would still get a 7 digit check as the mandatory. he has a golden opportunity to replenish his retirement bank account. he is a little older & wiser so i'm sure he won't be an idiot this time around because he is actually getting a 3rd chance to cash out.

              one year layoff

              almost 40 years old

              stopped five times

fought a slew of punchers / brutal offensive fighters in victory, but mostly defeat

he looked completely shot when he fought wladimir, and that was in '08

povetkin is nothing special (i'd pick him to lose a rematch to chambers, for instance. eddie was literally fat in that fight. he can still lose 20 lbs.)
but i think he'll beat rahman with few issues

all rahman brings to the table, as you said, is the size, experience, and he can still punch.
his best punch is still his jab, too.

I don't give Rahman much of a chance at all. In recent years, he's proven to be very easy to hit and his dedication to conditioning is virtually nonexistent. He's the typical out of shape lazy American hw that boxing people frequently cite as one of the problems of the hw division.

If Povetkin comes into this fight in good shape, I expect him to outwork/outbox Rahman enroute to a mid-to-late stoppage. Easy fight to predict..
