    Taylor Repeats, Decisions Hopkins

The young lion has done it once again. After months of controversy over who deserved to win the first fight, Taylor (25-0, 17 KOs) defeats Bernard Hopkins (46-4-1, 32 KOs) to prove his July 16 split decision victory was far from a fluke.

Taylor, a 27-year-old fighter from Little Rock, Arkansas, had the skills and superstar looks of a champion. An impressive amateur background, and a 2000 Olympic Bronze medal was not enough to make Taylor a star. He needed a signature victory over an established star in order to become the new face of boxing.

Bernard Hopkins was Taylor’s destiny from the moment Taylor first stepped inside the ring for his fist professional bout at Madison Square Garden on January 27, 2001. Going into their first meeting, the opinion of many saw Taylor as a fighter who was too inexperienced to defeat a veteran champion like Bernard Hopkins.

Prior to the first Hopkins meeting, Taylor two biggest opponents were Raul Marquez and William Joppy, both were well past their prime and not on the same level as Taylor in terms of overall skill. Hopkins, was undefeated for twelve years, and had not come close to tasting defeat. That is until Taylor, the biggest threat in Hopkin’s long career, had come on the scene. [details]

I do not think Taylor lost either fight, but he did edge both of the fights.

As for Winky, well, nobody gave a chance to Taylor before his fight with Hopkins. Let's wait and see. I think Taylor could give plenty of problem to Winky Wright.

I agree. At the end of both fights, Taylor looked like the beaten fighter. I think Hopkins showed, in both fights, that he's a better and smarter fighter.

I suppose Taylor should learn to smile after his fights, in order to stop these types of arguments.

he's arguing that his face was all ****ed up, not that his reactions seemed like he lost..i cant argue the "look" argument, its gotta b nerve racking waiting on the decision wether u think u won it or not..

Exactly. I don't care what the guys expression was while he was waiting for the decision. I mean the swelling around his eyes, and the body language in the ring. Taylor did a better job in the late rounds, then he did in the first fight, trying to look like he was in control, but he clearly wasn't. Taylor did a lot of holding and hangin' during the last half to third of the fight, and was looking pretty gassed and worn. He'd save his energy for a big flurry of somewhat ineffective punches to try to sway the judges, which obviously worked.

You've got a young guy with more speed and more power in the ring with an old man who's not particularily fast and definitely isn't known as a hard hitter. Yet, Hopkins controlled the pace of both fights, and progressively took the fights away from Taylor as they went on. The only thing Taylor really did was throw punches to keep Hopkins away from him, but he never had control of either of the fights at any point. He never dictated the pace, he never had any sustained pressure on Hopkins. Hopkins was able to work at whatever pace he wanted, and pick his shots the whole way through.
