Comments Thread For: Photos: Sugar Ray Robinson Street Sign Unveiling in NY

New York, New York - Thursday couldn't have been better, no matter the gray skies. Boxing legend Sugar Ray Robinson must have been smiling from the heavens on his 91st birthday, seeing his old friends, Congressman Rangel and Mayor Dinkins reminiscing about old times. Below are three photos from the ceremonial street sign unveiling for Sugar Ray Robinson Way, which took place in Harlem on May 3, on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd., at 124th Street. (The one-block designation is between 123rd & 124th Streets.)

No doubt about it. Sugar Ray Robinson AKA Walker Smith was and will always be the greatest fighter ever.
God put one athlete in every sport to set an example and Sugar Ray Robinson was that example for boxing. There will never be another one. When I started my boxing career I wanted to mold myself after Robinson. Later on as I was more in the sport I noticed Sugar Ray Leonard, Sugar Ray Seales and Sugar Shane Mosley to name just a few who patterned themselves after Robinson.

I came to realize that there will only be one like him; and to this day there are only one!!!
