Comments Thread For: Pirog Highly Doubts Felix Sturm is Serious About Fighting

In an earlier article on BoxingScene.com, WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm (37-2-2, 16 KOs) discussed his willingness to stage a unification bout with WBO beltholder Dmitry Pirog (19-0, 15KOs). Pirog is scheduled to return on May 1 in Russia against Nobuhiro Ishida of Japan. Should Pirog win, he is possibly going to face IBF champion Daniel Geale on an August date in the United States.

Pirog is right. Sturm has a long, long history of talking a good game and claiming he wants to fight top opponents and then picking from the "B" and "C" team for title defenses. He hasn't fought away from home for 10 years and avoids big hitters like the plague. Sturm vs Pirog in Moscow? Riiiiiiggggghhhht

I too do not belvieve Sturm. I believe it when I see it - and I probably won't.

Sturm will be stripped by WBA if he fights next someone other than GGG.

I've just never understood the way Sturm and his management have gone abut things in his career. He got a huge fight with Oscar way back in the day, which most felt he won even though he didn't get the decision. Ever since then he's literally fought nothing but b and c level opposition. I mean he's proven to himself and his management he's a legit world class fighter, why not test yourself with bigger names and take risks? Maybe he's content with what he does. He's really starting to fall into the Zsolt Erdei pattern though.

Do you mean the way the WBC will strip Chavez Jr. for ducking Martinez? Golovkin has been the mandatory for 2 years and nothing has happened so far. Neither Sturm nor Jr. will be stripped for ducking

              he probably isn't
the guy's been protecting his neck for a while now
too bad Martinez took care of Macklin instead of a rematch with Sturm
as others noted, still no Golovkin fight
              Pirog can't catch a break
wish Martinez would fight him instead of worrying about Chavez
no one else at MW will beat Chavez, he could wait a fight or 2
