  • Comments Thread For: Bute vs Froch Showdown Will Land on EPIX on May 26th

EPIX has officially announced that a deal was finalized to secure the American television rights for the anticipated fight between IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (30-0, 24 KOs) and challenger Carl Froch (28-2, 20 KOs). The bout takes place on May 26th in Froch's backyard of Nottingham. Bute, who has an exclusive television deal with Showtime, was forced to find an alternative American outlet when Showtime, and HBO, took a pass on the opportunity to televise the fight with Froch. Bute is still contractually obligated for one more fight with Showtime.

I still cant get it, that both HBO and Showtime passed on the opportunity of this super mega fight in the division where everyone avoids the other after super 6 finished.

Showtime passed bcoz there saving that last fight of his contract for Ward or Dirrell if they can get either of those to go through.I don't get why they couldn't work out an extension with Bute for another fight or 2 don't know if that was discussed or not.
HBO might not of had the budget for it plus if Bute wins he'll go back to Showtime anyway.
As long as EPIX has it that's fine.

Staggering to me that Showtime passed on this fight, they've shown both fighters quite regularly. This is a fantastic fight.

HBO passing on it does not surprise me. They're more into event fights and whatever Haymon asks them to do these days.

Pretty much the most entertaining fight that can be made at SMW and it will be available to 10% of the US population.

Showtime puts Tarver vs Kayode on Championship Boxing but won't get this fight.
HBO spends big money on the garbage Hopkins vs Dawson fight but won't get this fight.

The US boxing TV market is shit.

Same reason they've shunned the heavyweight champions while invested time into promoting their worthless American prospects. HBO and Showtime are full of racist old ****s.
