J.T Outboxes Martinez but get stopped in the latta rounds cause of his stamina/chin issues, If J.T had those attributes he would give any middleweight in history hell.
The Jermain Taylor that beat Hopkins vs the current Sergio Martinez

To you maybe but to every boxing analyst he was. He most certainly had the tools to be a great fighter. He had a decorated amateur career and was a medalist in the Olympics. Mentally he became weak and that was his downfall. But the TS is asking if the Taylor who fought Hopkins, who I remind you was a hungry fighter, not a lazy fighter he became in later fights not listening to his trainer, could beat Martinez. Not the Taylor who lost to Pavlik.
Going 1-1 with Hopkins is better than anything Martinez has accomplished though, as Hopkins is a hall of famer, a legend and an all time great so that shouldn't be a knock on Taylor, if anything that's more evidence that he was a very good fighter.
Going back to the Cory Spinks talk...
Do styles no longer make fights? If we revisit that boring ass fight, it was two guys who were playing the role of a counter puncher. Spinks was landing an average of about 2-3 punches per round and Taylor slightly more than that. That's not giving Taylor a "tough" fight that's Taylor's mistake for not being more aggressive. But he wouldn't have that problem with Martinez, who would come to Taylor more frequently and would be a lot easier to hit.
He easily beat Ouma and hurt him almost every time he landed a hard shot. Ouma put up a spirited effort but that's about as far as that goes.
Again, we're talking about the Taylor that beat Hopkins. And for the record Taylor was easily beating Pavlik until he got stopped in the first fight and the second fight was actually a lot closer than the scores indicated, but I don't believe Taylor was ever the same fighter after his KO loss. Some guys can recover from KO's some guys don't and I think Taylor is the latter.
How is Taylor not fundamentally sound? He may not have Floyd or Hopkins defense but it was solid enough. And he was absolutely fundamentally sound in the way in his technique, his positioning, his footwork, the motions of his punches, his stance, etc.
martinez isn't fundamentally sound. He is the complete opposite. Now it works for him, but it's polar opposites.
Not seeing it man. Pavlik is big and strong and Taylor thought he had Pavlik finished after he knocked him down and nearly out and he got lazy after that. Taylor allowed pavlik back into the fight and Pavlik kept applying pressure and going to work. Martinez isn't the type of fighter to walk 6'1 Taylor down like Pavlik did though. martinez doesn't walk anyone down, he stays on the outside pops in and out...it would favor Taylor's style more, it would be easier for him to use his jab and his counter punch against a guy like Martinez.
I disagree with that too. I think Taylor had a lot of skills but his prime was short lived. I don't think he had the mentality of a champion or at least to stay a good champion for very long. Most of his problems were stamina and being lazy in fights. But I do believe when he was an up & comer and when he fought hopkins he was a hungry fighter and that was the difference between the Taylor who fought Hopkins vs the Taylor that lost to Pavlik, if that makes sense. Mentally he lost the hunger, which he never really showed after he became champ.
i dont know what i like more; a good post, or a post about JT JT JT
this one happens to be bothComment

That version of Taylor went 36 rounds with Bernard Hopkins and Winky Wright, all three fights were close and competitive no matter what any one says. The Winky fight was exciting as hell, I actually just re-watched it before yesterday on Youtube and enjoyed the fight. It was a very good fight between two top prime fighters, I wish HBO would give this fight again so some one can record it in HD.
I can't see Sergio beating even that Taylor. And that Taylor was already after he had fought B-Hop twice. Sergio's best wins are against Williams and Pavlik, which are very good wins, but those two fighters are no where near 05-06 Winky and B-Hop, who Taylor fought 36 competitive rounds with. Pavlik knocked Taylor out in 2007 and all, but IMO I thought Jermain Taylor won the rematch, and I wasn't the only one who thought that, I felt better about my scores when I read The New York Times also having it for Taylor.Comment

So a guy can't get a little ****** up in a fight? Also you know that KD was created more due to Sergio being off balance and being pushed but regardless he beat all 3 fighters 2 by ko/tko while Taylor was stopped by KellyComment

martinez knocks him out late. early on the speed, reach, power and sharp jab of taylor would give him trouble, i think it would be a very close fight for 8 rounds or so.
jermain slows down late though, and when his speed drops and he gets more sloppy martinez will capitalize. sergio has great killer instinct, he knows when to strike. he is very intelligent and will have no trouble walking JT into something if he looses a step in there.Comment

I just think sergio is all wrong for taylor, sergio uses his slicknes in a sneaky way and then knocks his apponent out.
Taylor is good at many things but he is not the most clever boxer and will fall right into one of sergios traps.Comment

My guess is it would go like a lot of Taylor's big fights went. He'd do really well early, look great, and then tire and get stopped late. Martinez gets stronger as fights go on, and Taylor fades big time. I really like Taylor, and actually would like to see this fight if his comeback is successful, but doesn't change the fact that he'd fade and get stopped.Comment
