Let's hope he's as successful as his grandfather and great uncle.

There was also Leon's son Darrell who fought to a 15-4 record as a light heavyweight.

I wonder if Leon Spinks III is the son of Leon Calvin Spinks(Leons son) that was 2-0 as a pro before he was murdered at the age of 19?

          This Guy is pure genius

No amateur pedigree, age 24 and starting to take up boxing. WOW. First mistake was leaving school, unless he attended one of them schools where they operate like the 13 grade. Leon, Michael and Cory were top notch amateurs. They were champions because they paid there dues in the amateurs. STAY IN SCHOOL. BOXING WON'T BE ANY EASIER THAN SCHOOL WAS.

He may not have the amateur qualifications of his grandfather or great uncle but he had an amateur record of 57-3.

For the very first time I think you may have something there. I also think there is more to this sudden turning to pro boxing at age 24 with no amateur experience. My first thought was that he couldn't find a job.

And his comments clash with one another. He says he considered it very carefully for a long time, and he loves the sport, yet he's never had an amateur fight, and seems to be a bit bitter about having had to leave school and give up his studies. Yet he says it's because he loves boxing. The whole little story seems very "incoherent". At the same time he's saying that he wants to see a long string of boxing achievements attached to his name. BUT, having his first fight at 24 doesn't seem to me to allow time for this, unless he can fight successfully until, say, age 45. Another little point. Leon is not 60 yet, and he has a 24 year old grandson.... Someone must have been fooling around at a very young age

Anyway, I've always liked Leon, our most unpretentious champion, and I hope that his grandson does as well as he hopes to.
